Background
A case study evaluating the efficacy of applying Puracol Plus Ag+ dressing to a 53 year old female with diabetic foot ulcers. Puracol Plus Ag+ is a collagen enhanced with silver ions to allow the bodys own fibroblasts by producing the collagen to heal the wound. The material is a gel sheet and highly absorbent of exudates wounds. The technology enhanced silver ions suggest reduction of bioburden and hence heal the wound faster.

Methods
The collagen silver based dressing was sized to ulcer site located at the right plantar heel measuring 1.0 cm x 1.4 cm x 0.1 cm and the left plantar heel 4.0 cm x 2.5 cm x 0.1 cm. Weekly application of the collagen silver based membrane was changed and applied after saline wash. Darco® shoe was given to the patient for partial weight bearing during the course of the treatment.

Results
At the end of the 3rd week the silver based collagen promoted epithelization and improved closure bilaterally to the plantar heel wound site.

Conclusion
The native type I collagen silver based dressing shows promising results and offers an alternative strategy to wound healing. Additional case studies are needed for future confirmation of our outcomes. * Puracol® Ag+
