Lecture rooms were comfortably filled with a total of 550 attendees
The new location in Texas has resulted in a significant increase in Midwest
membership which is still continuing. We estimate a total attendance of 550
filled the general lecture rooms. The pre-course and post-course break-out
lectures were also well attended, several were sold out and food was plentiful
in the Exhibit area for breakfast, lunch and breaks. The Dinner Symposium on
Thursday night was again well attended and the presentation provided, through a
Platinum Level grant by Vasamed, was very interesting and opens a new era of
peripheral arterial assessment that directly correlates with oxygenation of the
peripheral tissues.
Andrew Boulton, MD gave a spectacular Keynote
Address and received our first Outstanding Achievement Award. We are proud to
say that he has accepted our first honorary membership. A spectacular Annual
Scientific Address was delivered by researchers from the University of Iowa, all
Fellows of FAPWCA. The program organized by Darlene McCord, PhD, FAPWCA and
supported through our first Emerald Level Grant provided by McCord Research.
Drs. Prabhat Goswami, Ehab Sarsour and Joshua Madsen explained their research on
“The Role of Free Radicals in Wound Healing: Cell Cycle and Quiescent Cells”.
This grant also provided funding for our abstract poster presentations and the
first, second and third place awards… Thank You!

Interactive lecture with Dr. Sibbald
APWCA2008 Poster and Oral
Abstracts were a highlight of our academic programming. There was an abundance
of each type of abstract submitted, and those selected can be found currently on
our website by Abstracts Archive. We are also proud of our second annual poster
award presentations and congratulate all the award recipients for their
recognition. That said, we also feel it fair to mention that many abstracts were
very high quality and that the selection process for the awards was difficult.
All should know that they were selected for presentation from a pool that far
outnumbered the final selected presenters and we thank each author for their
efforts and dedication in helping to make APWCA2008 the academic program it was.
Please read the Synergy article by Mary-Ellen Dobson, RN-BC, CHRN, CWOCN DAPWCA
for all the details about the Poster Awards.
Over 70 exhibitors provided valuable information on products and services used
daily in wound care. APWCA thanks each of them for their participation and
support. We also gratefully acknowledge our supporting industry whose grants
allow APWCA to provide educational services that continue to grow and flourish
with each passing year.

Mark your calendars for April 2-5, 2009 when we
are back in Philadelphia.
The APWCA is anticipating a total attendance of
1,000 with spectacular ground breaking plans already on the drawing
board.
